Des Moines, IA – Greater Des Moines Noon Chapter of
the American Business Women’s Association (ABWA) has funds available thru
the Stephen Bufton Memorial Educational Fund (SBMEF). One grant will be
awarded in the amount of up to $1500 to be used on tuition books or fees
only.
Female students who are
seeking a degree from an accredited college or university in the United
States and are U. S. citizens may apply.
1. Guidelines
The maximum grant amount awarded is $1500
Grant is for one year, although recipients may reapply.
Funds are to be used only for tuition, books, and fees.
The SBMEF trustees (the current ABWA National Board of Directors) serve as
the selection board for all grants.
Outright grants are not to be repaid.
2. Applicant
Eligibility Requirements
The applicant must be a female U.S. citizen.
The applicant must be at least at the sophomore level in college
(completed 45 credit hours or more) when applying for funds to be used the
following year, when she is at least at the junior level or above
(completed 60 credit hours or more).
Both ABWA members and non-members may apply - the applicant may or may not
be a member either of the Greater Des Moines Noon Chapter of the American
Business Women’s Association.
The applicant must have achieved a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better
on a 4.0 scale.
The applicant must be seeking a baccalaureate degree or higher.
The applicant must be attending an institution authorized to confer degrees
at the baccalaureate level or higher in the United States, its possessions,
territories or districts.
Applicant must request log in and password
for access to the online application which includes a biographical sketch,
three (3) current professional reference letters and an official

Background
The Greater Des Moines Noon Chapter is part of a
national network of businesswomen. Founded in 1949, ABWA is a 15,000 member
strong association with chapters and Express Networks nationwide, providing
business skills training and networking opportunities for women of diverse
occupations to enhance career advancement and personal development. ABWA has
dedicated more than half a century to women’s education and provided
workplace skills and career development training for more than 565,000
members.
SBMEF is a charitable trust and public foundation.
It has the same tax status as public schools, churches and community funds.
The Fund is listed in the IRS “Cumulative List of Organizations” described
in Section 170(c) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1954 – revised Oct. 31,
1974.
